This weekend I accompanied Simply Social Media on an Instameet influencers trip to Gallup, New Mexico. Since I work as the Creative Content Manager for Simply Social, my role is to get content of the whole group so that we can show the value to both influencers looking to join a future opportunity, or a tourism department looking to take advantage of Influencer Marketing.

Wild Wolf Sanctuary
Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary, located about an hour from Gallup, in the serene landscapes of Candy Kitchen, New Mexico, is a dedicated haven for canids needing refuge and care. Founded in 1991, this sanctuary spans over 720 acres of varied terrain, where these majestic animals can thrive after they have been rescued.
The sanctuary is home to over sixty wolves, wolf-dogs, foxes, and Singing Dogs. They all have their own unique story of rescue and rehabilitation. From the charismatic alpha wolves (Aries and Lazer I’m looking at you!) to the shy and retiring individuals, Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary offers a glimpse into complex social structures and the behaviors of these beautiful apex predators. Through educational programs and guided tours, visitors can learn about the importance of wolf conservation, the challenges they face in the modern world, their needs and their vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Some of them were former pets or are very accustomed to humans so they act as ambassador animals that you can get to know and spend time with. We were carefully instructed about safe interactions with these animals and ALWAYS let them decide if they wanted to spend time with us.
The staff ensures that the animals feel safe and comfortable while working tirelessly to provide enrichment activities, spacious enclosures, and veterinary care tailored to the specific needs of each resident.
Through their compassionate efforts and dedication to conservation, Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary serves as a sanctuary for its inhabitants and an inspiration for its visitors.
El Rancho Hotel
Have you ever stayed in a historic hotel along Route 66?
Another must-do in Gallup, if you want to have a memorable stay, is the historic El Rancho Hotel in Gallup! El Rancho is an eclectic mix of Western style, old Hollywood, and Indigenous art and history. They even staff the lobby with a docent who can tell you about the history!
Built in 1937 by the brother of film director D.W. Griffith, this iconic hotel has hosted countless movie stars like John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, and Katharine Hepburn while they filmed Westerns in the surrounding desert.
I liked the grand lobby, with its massive stone fireplace, Navajo rugs, and vintage photographs. The hallways are lined with autographed photos of the stars. The second-floor mezzanine has such unique furniture and decor- I noticed something new every time I went up there.
Staying at El Rancho was more than just a nice night’s rest in a comfy bed. It’s a journey through time, a taste of Hollywood glamour, and an immersion in Southwestern culture. Whether you’re a history buff, a film enthusiast, or someone who likes to find unique getaway like me, El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, NM, is a great choice!

Local Gallup Events: Flea Market
The Gallup New Mexico Flea Market is a vibrant hub of culture that captures the essence of the Southwest. This flea market is one of the largest Native American markets in the United States. Every weekend, folks from all over the region gather to buy and sell. It has an atmosphere that’s lively and deeply rooted in tradition.
One of the highlights of the Gallup Flea Market is the food. The enticing aroma of frybread, Navajo tacos, Native Boba, Filipino food, mutton stew, and roasted corn fills the air. Go ahead and indulge in the delicious local cuisine. I loved that this flea market had local food and vendors instead of the typical hot dog and hamburger.
This sense of community here is palpable. The Gallup Flea Market is not just a place to shop, but a place to connect and celebrate culture.
Add the flea market to your must-see in Gallup list. It’s a unique opportunity to experience the rich tapestry of Native American culture, support local artisans, and immerse yourself in the lively spirit of this Southwestern gem.

Participants in the Gallup Rodeo compete in a range of classic events such as bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, and team roping
