Rediscovering Myself in Santa Fe

After a period of losing sight of who I was (more on that here) and enduring a no-good, terrible, rough year, I have finally found community, renewed passion, free time, jobs I love, and a new home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This move has been transformative. Santa Fe, with its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes, has provided the perfect backdrop for my journey of self-discovery.

Embracing Community and Passion

One of the most significant aspects of this journey has been finding a supportive community. Moving to a new place can be daunting, but having good friends already located in Santa Fe and really cultivating new or maybe less strong relationships into something beautiful have made it feel like home. I’ve reconnected with my passions, particularly my love for archaeology and history, which Santa Fe is steeped in. Working on preserving archaeological sites has reignited my sense of purpose and excitement. I truly believe that the work we do at the New Mexico State Land Office matters and we are actively trying to improve the discipline and improve relationships with living people.

Santa Fe has a unique blend of old-world charm and modern vibrancy. Its streets are lined with adobe buildings, art galleries, and vibrant markets, creating a picturesque setting that is as inspiring as it is beautiful. My life here is diverse- from train rides to DND, Birding to “family dinners,” pickleball to drag shows- much like the crew of the Starship Enterprise, I strive for my space to be a space where everyone can feel at home.

Finding Balance and Joy

In addition to my professional pursuits, I’ve carved out time for the things that bring me joy. Whether it’s hiking in the stunning landscapes of New Mexico, exploring birding hotspots, or enjoying the local culinary scene, I’ve found a balance that I previously thought was out of reach. Santa Fe’s local restaurants and businesses have become a central part of my life, each visit offering a new discovery and a deeper connection to the community.

The natural beauty of New Mexico is unparalleled. From the expansive deserts to the majestic mountains, every hike is a new adventure. Birding has become a particular passion of mine and my husbands, offering a peaceful yet thrilling way to connect with nature. (PokemonGo in real life yo!) The diversity of bird species in New Mexico is astounding, and each outing is an opportunity to learn and appreciate the natural world more deeply.

Going Boldly and Loudly

Through this journey of self-discovery, I remembered a trait of mine that I’ve always valued: my enthusiasm and passion. I am not just going; I am going BOLDLY and LOUDLY. I am screaming, “HERE I AM!” and I want to be your ultimate hype woman. Life is too short to live quietly. It’s about making your presence known and embracing every moment with gusto.

Through this platform, I aim to share my adventures, whether it’s traversing rugged landscapes and working to preserve archaeological sites in New Mexico, jet-setting off to new destinations, exploring birding hotspots, supporting local Santa Fe restaurants and businesses, or simply seeking inspiration in everyday moments. Each adventure is a new chapter in the story of living boldly.

I’ve had the pleasure of exploring some incredible places, from archaeological sites all over the state to hidden gems in the tiniest downs in New Mexico. From Maine to Utah, Mexico to Arizona. Each destination offers something unique, and I love sharing these experiences with my community. Whether it’s a hidden gem of a restaurant, a stunning hiking trail, or a fascinating historic site, my goal is to inspire others to discover the beauty and excitement of the world around them.

I’ve learned that facing challenges head-on and stepping outside of my comfort zone has led to the most rewarding experiences. BUT a huge part of this is learning how to pivot- many folks have seen my flights be delayed, snow storms completely cancel an entire trip so we had to pivot- its making the most out of adventures even when things don’t go totally as planned.
